Violet Joyce “Via” Wood was born February 14th, 1943 in Paducah, Kentucky to Woodrow Wilson Sikes and Ruby Marie (Wadley) Sikes, along with two brothers and three sisters. She passed away January 22nd, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Via and Robert LeRoy Wood married on the 12th of November, 1976, in Osceola where they promised their love and devotion for each other “Until the Twelfth of Never.” Via had a son, Bradley Ozell Holland, from a previous marriage and LeRoy raised Brad as his own son.
Via became a Beautician in 1961 in Paducah. She worked for Clarice’s Beauty Salon after moving to Osceola, Missouri in 1973 for several years. She later opened her own shop, Via’s New Image Salon, across from the Osceola post office. Via changed careers in 1981 to be a Nurse’s Aid at Sac-Osage Hospital and other facilities in Paducah, Kentucky. Both were successful careers yielding many clients, patients, and friends who loved her greatly.
Via loved people and NEVER met a stranger. Her strong southern accent and her mere presence always lit up a room. Via was loved by many people and will be sorely missed. She will always be our Valentine.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nettie “Sister” Dawes; and a brother, Jimmy Sikes. Via is survived by her husband LeRoy; son, Brad, and his wife, Susan; two grandchildren, Bradley Beau Holland and Tamara Hope Holland; two sisters, Dorothy Turner and Sharon Miller; one brother, Wilson Sikes; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends.
