Barnes, Jackie Wayne May 17, 1934 - August 5, 2014

Barney was born on May 17, 1934 at the Appleton City Hospital to Jack and Ruth (Woolery) Barnes. Upon leaving the hospital Barney was taken to his home in the rural Lowry City Community where he lived his entire life. For more than sixty years he lived west of Lowry City on Highway ‘A’. Barney passed away at Truman Lake Manor on August 05, 2014. Barney grew up on the farm with his parents and was later joined by two sisters, Beverly Ann and Linda Lou. Barney helped his parents on the farm from the time that he was a young boy. On January 3, 1953 Barney married Joyce Ferguson. He and Joyce lived a short distance down the road from his parents and Barney and his dad farmed together. Over the years in addition to many acres of row crops they also raised turkeys and cattle. Barney also raised hogs and at one time had a herd of dairy cows. Farming was his profession his entire life. For many years Barney enjoyed hunting for coons, coyotes, rabbits and quail. In 1954 a daughter, Kathy was born to Barney and Joyce and in 1958 they welcomed a son named Kevin. As Barney’s dad grew older and unable to help with the day-to-day operation of the farm Kevin stepped in and became his business partner. Barney and Kevin continued farming together until Kevin lost his life in January 2007. Barney is preceded in death by his son Kevin, sister Beverly Brewster, parents Jack and Ruth and all four of his grandparents and his dog Maggie. Barney is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, his daughter Kathy Davis and her husband Chuck of rural Lowry City, his sister Linda of Greenwood and grandchildren Cheyenne and Dillon Davis of rural Lowry City and Katrina Corbin of Iconium, his brother-in-law Gene Ferguson and his wife Pat of Sedalia and sister-in-law Harriet Gilkeson and her husband Kenneth. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
