Alfred Lee Baumgarden was born in his parents home near Collins, Missouri on November 15, 1929. His parents were Ervin Jacob Baumgarden and Virgie Lee (Lamb).
He was the oldest of six siblings. He attended one room school houses in the St. Clair county area, then graduated High School from Osceola Mo. He served in the Navy reserves. He married his sweetheart Mary Jane (Harper) on November 11, 1949. To this marriage was born two children Vicki Lynn (Hyke) 10-12-50 and Michael Lee Baumgarden 9-12-53. The family moved to Washington to be near Janie’s family, there he worked in the Timber Mills. Eventually they moved back to Missouri in 1958.
Alfred enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. Alfred also served the Lord with the Gerster Baptist Church as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He and Janie became especially good with gardening as well as dancing together. They were members of the Moonshiners Social Club for many years where they danced. After moving back to Missouri he became an accomplished Stone Mason. Many homes around reflect his beautiful artistry. He was loved by his grandchildren and he so loved them. Actually, they were the center of his world.
He was preceded in death by sister Ellen Mae (Byler) and brother George Earl Baumgarden.
Alfred is survived by his wife Janie, of the home, sisters Audrey (Jim) Murray, Thelma (Larry) Cone and Norma (Bob) Ramirez, daughter Vicki Lynn Hyke (Earl) son Michael Lee Baumgarden (Liz) grandchildren Mellonie Mayle (Kelly), Nicole Camejo (Ian), Nathan Hyke (Becky), Rebecca Bohn (Bill), and Leslie Baumgarden. And numerous great-grandchildren, neices and nephews and friends.
We are confident, I say, and willing to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord – 2nd Corinthians 5:8 Poppy would love nothing more than to know that his family and friends have a relationship with Jesus Christ and will see him soon.
