Carl Brown, 71, passed peacefully in his home in Harrisonville on Saturday, July 22, 2023 surrounded by loving
family.
Carl was born February 10, 1952 in Kermit, Texas to Charlie and Zada Brown. He spent his early childhood in Texas,
New Mexico and Utah before moving to Osceola in 1960. He graduated from Osceola High School in 1970. He
worked at Clearfield Cheese in Clinton, MO until 1972 when he started a 30-year career at Armco Steel in Kansas
City, MO. Upon retiring from Armco, he spent another 15 years working at Owens-Corning in Kansas City, KS before
retiring in 2020.
Carl married Terri McKenzie shortly after high school and they had three beautiful children together: Krista, Carl, and
Caitlin. The family lived in Independence, Missouri for several years before settling in a home in the country in
Harrisonville in 1990, a home that Carl loved dearly and where he spent the rest of his life. The kids have fond
memories of their time in Harrisonville, like “helping” their dad organize his tools as he worked on his car in the
driveway or hearing his truck coming down the gravel road after a long day at work, usually carrying a candy bar
home for them in his lunchbox.
Later in his life, Carl met Vickie Poindexter, and the two formed a devoted bond. They enjoyed spending time with
family and friends and truly enjoyed each other’s company. One of their favorite memories together was Carl’s
retirement party, where he shot his alarm clock to celebrate his well-deserved time to rest after a dedicated career.
Vickie was by Carl’s side during his courageous battle with cancer, providing unwavering and loving care throughout.
Carl accepted Jesus as his savior around the age of 7 in Moab, UT in the Baptist church his dad helped start and
build. The church is still standing and active today. He attended Vista Baptist Church throughout his school years
upon returning to Missouri with his family.
Carl loved drag racing in his pride and joy, which he still owns, a 1967 Camaro. He was known all over Kansas City
for his Camaro with the small block engine that won numerous races at KCIR. He was named co-racer of the year at
KCIR in 1987 alongside his brother.
Carl was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, Papa and friend. He could always be counted on to help friends and
family in need. He would help fix and repair anything at any time when asked. Whether it was working in the hay
fields, working cattle, welding repairs, or getting a car up and running for someone, he was willing and ready to do it.
He also enjoyed golfing with friends or just catching up over early morning coffee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Zada Brown and his sister Phyllis (Brown) Tedrick.
He is survived by his brothers LaRoy (Beverly) of Lemont, IL & Jack (Kathy) of Osceola, MO; his children Krista Hayes
(Steve) of Raymore, MO, Carl Brown (Jodi) of Garden City, MO and Caitlin Brown of Harrisonville, MO; Vickie
Poindexter of Harrisonville, MO; grandchildren Keller, Casen, Jackson, Mason, and Annabelle, and a large extended
family.
