Joseph Aaron Shearrer was born to Frank and Virginia Bennett Shearrer on November 25, 1926. Joe joined the Marine Corp and served his country during World War II. After the war, he played semi-pro football and boxed professionally before joining the Detroit Police Department. Joe retired as a Detective Seargeant of homicide and then moved on to become the Sheriff of Cedar County for 10 years and the Deputy Coroner.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Frances Yvonne Shearrer; sons, Thomas Shearrer and Ken Vicchio and wife Colo; daughter Carla DeMarco and husband George; step children, Dean Hamilton and wife Dawn, Diana Smith, Becky Jackson and husband Rick, Kenny Hamilton, Alvin Hamilton, and Patty Salazar and husband Drex; 23 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister, Joyce Thompson Garrow.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley B. Shearrer; daughter, JoAnn Spurgeon; mother, Virginia Shearrer; father and step mother, Frank D. and Alvina M. Shearrer; brothers, Gerald “Jack” Shearrer and wife Alberta and Hugh Shearrer and wife Wanda; daughter in law, Gail Shearrer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the Church of God – Holiness in El Dorado Springs, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Sheldon Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs, MO. There will be an Eagle’s memorial service held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday. Interment will take place at Wright Cemetery in rural El Dorado Springs.
