Donald Charles Broyles, 73, Raymore, MO, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 with his family by his side.
Donald was born on January 12, 1939, in Bear Creek, Mo. He attended school in Osceola, MO, and later graduated from Moler Barber College where he received his barber license. Donald then moved to St. Joseph, Mo, with his new bride, Oletta, and there they started their family. Later they moved to Kansas City where he opened his business (The Southwest Barber Shop) located at Gregory & Main. Eventually he moved to its permanent location at 75th & Wornall. Donald worked there for over fifty years and eventually retired. Donald’s friends and customers would refer to him as “Big Don.” This was because he was larger than life itself. Donald always had a kind word of encouragement and a smile for anyone he met. Donald was an honest man who was not afraid to speak his mind. Donald will be remembered for his good nature, kind heart, crooked smile and his twinkling big blue eyes. Donald will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Oletta Broyles and their three children and seven grandchildren. Two sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Christine Broyles and their children Megan, Melissa and Molly of Marshfield, Mo, and Ronald and Judy Broyles and their children Samantha, Ronald Jr. and Alexander of Overland Park, Ks. A daughter, Sharon Broyles Humphrey and her son Aaron Humphrey of Raymore, Mo. He also leaves two sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Harry Miller and Kay and Earl Starkey and two brothers Larry Broyles and Randy Broyles; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Myrtle Broyles and a sister Wanda Breshers.
