Donald Leon Higgins August 14, 2026

Date of Funeral

September 3, 2026

Donald Leon Higgins, Don to most who knew him, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, who left us peacefully on August 14th, 2026, at the age of 81.

Don was born with a love of the outdoors and a knack for fixing anything broken, whether it was a tractor, a toaster, or a troubled heart. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures like drinking coffee in a deer stand, fishing on a quiet lake, operating heavy equipment at the farm, and meticulously maintaining his beautiful 3-acre homestead.

For 40 years, Don worked at Sears, Roebuck and Company. He started his career as a stockman, attended night classes to become a master electrician and eventually carried the electrical license for the Sears Catalog Plant until it closed. Don then transitioned to a project manager for Sears, overseeing construction projects from the East to West Coast.

To his family and friends, he was generous, kind and a walking book of knowledge. He was always willing to provide a helping hand whether the task was big or small. You cannot remember Don without smiling because of his big personality and sense of humor.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Robi Higgins and Jewell Margaret (Gilbert) Higgins.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maudie (Chapman) Higgins; Son, Chris Higgins (Patty); Daughter, Debbie (Higgins) Byard (Michael); Grandchildren, Amanda Byard Dotson, Jeremy Byard, Zachary Byard; Brothers, Elvin Higgins and Wayne Higgins; and a host of extended family and friends.

Don has been called home, but his memory will live on in all of us.

A celebration of Life will be held on September 3rd, 2026 at the Blue Springs Christian Church, 7920 SW Sate Rd 7 Hwy, Blue Springs, Missouri. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with a service following at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift be made to NKC Health Oncology or KC Hospice.
