Edgar Paul Sweet III (Eddie, Ed) was born on September 21, 1958 at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and died on April 19, 2026 at home in Osceola, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents Beverly Jean Burkett Sweet and Edgar Paul Sweet Junior, and is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years Joanne Hilary Sweet and brother William Sweet. Growing up in Blue Springs, Missouri, Ed enjoyed building models (ships, cars, tanks, planes, etc.), camping, hunting, and fishing; and was also in Boy Scouts, achieving Eagle Scout in 1973. Teaching the archery merit badge was one of his favorite Scouting accomplishments. After graduating from Blue Springs High School in 1976, Ed attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he studied Industrial Design and Drafting Technology. He worked as a draftsman for Butler Manufacturing for thirty-six years, both in Missouri and in Texas, drawing many and varied types of building structures, large and small, such as hospitals, Auto Zones, aircraft hangers, Walmart Distribution Centers, etc. In retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was in particular an avid fly fisherman. His creative and detailed skills allowed him to tie flies into the thousands, many of which he donated each year to youth fishing workshops. Ed was a devout believer in Jesus Christ, and now rests in a place of “profound quiet” (per Second Esdras), while awaiting the New Heavens and New Earth as part of New Jerusalem, into Eternity.
“And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” Daniel 12:3
The family asks for donations to be made to a local food bank.

April 22, 2026 at 12:37 pmAs a boy, Eddie would bring to me the most recent model he had put together. It seemed every week or so that I would visit his parents, a new model would be shown to me. He was always a patient kid to be able to put together these very extensive and extraordinary models of various kinds. I suspect that might be why he became successful with drafting as a career and interested in making flies for his fly fishing.
I shall always remember the pride of his parents, Eddie and Beverly, when he made Eagle Scout. He approached Scouting seriously, patiently, and wanting to do his best.
I could see in him, as an adult, being so much like his own Father, hunting and fishing, enjoying being out in nature.
I’m thankful to have had some time in the hospital after Eddie’s surgery with him. It was clear he was happy to be back in Missouri and looking forward to getting better soon, especially in order to be fishing soon. He loved his life with Joanne, speaking of her often. We remembered Aunts, Uncles and Cousins in Pennsylvania, along with family times in Branson.
It’s comforting to know all is well with your soul as flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
