Sylvia Alene (Evans) Greathouse was born September 8, 1933, the first child of Lloyd and Dena (Johnson) Evans in Humansville, Missouri. She passed away at her home in Osceola, Missouri July 3, 2018.
In a span of 21 years she was joined by 13 more siblings, losing one at birth. As the oldest she was always there to help in any way, providing her home for many family gatherings of 60 or more.
Most of Sylvia’s young life was spent in the Humansville area until her family settled in Osceola, Missouri in 1951 where she remained until peacefully passing in her sleep at home with family members near. Sylvia accepted Christ into her life soon after moving to Osceola at a revival meeting at the Red Rock School House.
When Lloyd and Dena moved to Salt Creek west of Osceola the locals warned them about the Greathouse boys across the creek. Sylvia married Bill Greathouse October 24, 1953 to be followed by 2 sisters marrying 2 more of those Greathouse boys, totaling around 140 years when all numbers were combined.
Sylvia and Bill welcomed 2 daughters to their home, Pat (Patroske) Greathouse in 1955 and Rosetta (Greathouse) Stonebrook in 1963. As years went by they were blessed by 3 grandchildren, Tricia, Jamie and Ashley. Then came the great grands, Samantha and Cierra Cochran, Hunter Patroske and Gracie, Natalie and Jesse Gannaway.
She stayed home until Pat started school then worked in the school cafeteria a few years until she found her true calling and became a waitress at local restaurants. The longest being the Bus Station, where she worked over a span of 40 years. She came with the fixtures as new owners took over.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, infant sibling, husband of 55 years, Bill Greathouse; 3 brothers, Gary, Jerry and Larry, loosing a 4th brother Travis 1 week after her passing; 4 sisters, Janice Summers, Vera Greathouse, Sharon Smith and Phyllis Cutler; 1 son-in-law, Keith Stonebrook; brothers-in-law, John, Freddie, Charlie and Harry Greathouse, Troy Wishon, Jerry Bayless and Loren Cutler; sisters-in-law, Norma (Greathouse) Wishon and Arless Evans.
She is survived by her daughters; grandchildren, Tricia (Coley) Cochran, Jamie (Donna) Patroske and Ashley (Toby) Gannaway; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Christine Greathouse, Pam Dutcher and Sandy Bayless; 1 brother, Terry Evans; sisters-in-law, Glenda and Thelma; brothers-in-law, Harold Summers, Bill Smith and Harold Dutcher, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
