Mary Alice Hammond was born June 18, 1937 in Wheatland, MO to Henry Arthur and Ruth Violet (Hood) Bailey. She passed away June 13, 2013 at her home in Osceola, MO. In July of 1955 Mary Alice was united in marriage to Orlyn Russell Hammond. After spending a few months in Kansas City they moved to southern California. Their son Jeff was born in Los Angeles County in 1958. Jeff preceded his mother in death in 1974 at the age of 15 and Russ preceded her in death in 2001. After Russ retired in 1986 they spent time in El Dorado Springs, MO, Hemet, CA and eventually settled down in Osceola in 1995. Mary Alice was an accomplished seamstress. She was a pattern designer and spoke at many quilt shows. She showed quilts at LA County and Orange County Quilt shows; and the Missouri State Fair and Ozark Empire Fair. She also made award-winning jellies and jams. Mary Alice was a very avid reader. She was a Boy Scout Den mother during Jeff’s childhood. Mary Alice was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Ann. She is survived by four sisters, Jo Burrow, Eleanor Masten, Joyce Dantes and Pam Dutcher; one brother, Tony Reynolds, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
