Lula Leona (Bourland) Jamison was born December 16, 1921 to Ed and Laura Bourland. Leona went to be with Jesus on June 15, 2013. She leaves behind five children, Doug Jamison, Lowry City, MO, Mike Jamison and wife Linda, El Dorado Springs, MO, Phillip Jamison and wife Shirley, Ft. Scott, KS, David Cox ( a foster son) and wife Trish, Richards, MO, Sheryl (Jamison) Forbes, Mexico, MO. Preceding her in death was her husband, Jay Jamison and her oldest daughter, Leah (Jamison) Conard. Leona was the youngest and only remaining sibling of thirteen. There were, Willie, Harden, Grover, Horace, Forrest, Ruth (Bourland) Burrow, Myrtle (Bourland) Powell, Cleo (Bourland) Sims, Audrey (Bourland) Powell, Martha Alice (Bourland) Wright and two babies who died in infancy. Leona also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Leona was married to Jay Jamison on March 25, 1939 in Appleton City, MO at Rev. Miller’s home. She worked outside the home for many years doing for others. She cleaned houses and took care of the elderly. She always made sure she left for work after the children left for school and made sure she returned from work before her children returned home from school. Anyone who knew her will remember that she loved to cook for her family and others. On Thanksgiving or Christmas it was not unusual for her to bake 8 to 10 pies, plus a blackberry cobbler. She would prepare a couple of different meats and numerous vegetables, salads, and side dishes. She always worried, “will I have enough”. She would always make sure she prepared the grandkids favorite dishes. From our earliest memories, we, children recall that family devotions was an essential part of the day — before school and at bedtime. Mom would have us all sit down in the living room and read her Bible and pray with us. She made sure we all went to every revival and camp meeting within a 30 mile radius. A few months before she passed on, one of her children found her crying as she lay resting in her bed. She asked, “Mom, are you hurting?”, “No”, she said, “I just want all my family to be ready”. Leona’s only desires for her family was that she be able to keep them well fed at all times and she stated many times that she wanted “the circle to be unbroken”. We miss you tremendously, Mom but we know as the Apostle Paul said, “You fought a good fight, you have finished your course and you kept the faith”. Now, you are enjoying the bliss of heaven —and those of your family that are there with you now. We will see you again very soon, Mom!
