Hankins, Charles E. March 12, 1941 - February 24, 2014

Charles Edward Hankins was born March 12, 1941 in Forsyth, Missouri to Earl and Mioma (Holt) Hankins. He was 1 of 13 children. Charlie passed away at his home near Collins, Missouri on February 24, 2014.

He attended most of his grade school in Cedar Creek, Missouri. Charles was on the basketball team and they always played Forsyth from time to time. It was at these basketball games that he first caught the eye of his future wife, Barba Ann Zug. Barba was about 12 to 13 years old and they had never actually met until she was 15 years old. Charles was a good basketball player and his team usually beat Forsyth, which is where Barba went to school. Her dad was very strict and wouldn’t let her date until she was 16. They started dating and very soon they were engaged. Charles in Barba were united in marriage on October 15, 1961 and to this union 2 children were born, Chuck and Anna. Later they were blessed with 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Charlie started working for General Motors in September of 1959 and retired in April of 1988 when they closed the Leeds General Motors Plant in Kansas City. They moved to Black Jack after his retirement and lived there until they moved to their new home near Collins and as they say, “The Rest is History”.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Virgil Hankins and Willie Hankins and 1 sister, Thelma Stone.

Charlie is survived by his wife Barba Hankins, of the home; 1 son, Chuck Hankins and wife Laray of Osceola, Missouri; 1 daughter, Anna Terril and husband Kelly of Raytown, Missouri; 2 grandsons, C.D. and Dakota Hankins; 4 granddaughters, Trisha Nichols, Charity Terril, Brandy Gebbeken and Jessica Marie Hankins; 3 great-grandsons, Zaydist Dain Gebbeken, Jett James Nichols and Ryker Sage Gebbeken; 5 brothers, James Hankins and wife Emily of Warsaw, Missouri, Lloyd Hankins and wife Garlena of Warsaw, Missouri, Alfred Hankins and wife Shirley of Warsaw, Missouri, Wayne Hankins and wife Laura of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Darrell Hankins and wife Cindi of Osceola, Missouri; 5 sisters, Wanda Sanders and husband Birch of Kissee Mills, Missouri, Sue VanDyke and husband Ed of Orange Park, Florida, Mary Blevins and husband John of Omaha, Arkansas, Donna Shouse of Caney, Kansas and Kay Rogers of Neodesha, Kansas along with other family and many friends.
