Hartley, J Allan November 13, 1931 - March 12, 2011

J Allan Hartley was born November 13, 1931 in Osceola, Missouri to Opal Clayton and Hallie Dee Fulton Hartley. He passed away on March 12, 2011 at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri.

He was baptized at Grace Methodist Church in Osceola. J graduated from Osceola High School in 1950. In January of 1951 he married Lovell Dewey Weant and to this union two children were born, Brenda Kay and Bobby J Hartley.

J joined the United States Navy on January 25, 1951 and served on the USS Thompson during the Korean War. He was discharged on November 4, 1953

After J served his country in United States Navy he went to barber school in Kansas City, Missouri and opened his own shop on the East side. He later returned to Osceola and worked in his dad’s barber shop and sold feed to local farmers. He later worked for the Director of Weights and Measures in the Missouri Department of Agriculture as a large scale inspector, then he worked for the Fairbanks Scale Company. J had also worked for Paul Firestone and Randy Sheldon at the Goodrich Funeral Home from 1977 to 1986 and later became Executive Director of the Osceola Housing Authority from 1986 to 1998 and continued working part time at the funeral home. He had also served on the Osceola City Council.

He was a member of the Lowry City United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 618. He became a licensed Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church and served at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church as Lay Pastor for 14 years.

In May of 1975 he married Irene Christensen Forsyth and they adopted their two daughters Jennifer Ann and Christina Louise

J is preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Vi Hartley.

He is survived by his wife Irene; children, Brenda (Kirt) Kellar of Pleasant Hill, Bobby J (Jeane) Hartley of Pleasant Hill, Jennifer (Jeremy) Portman of Clinton and Christina (Larry) Alumbaugh of Osceola; grandchildren, Regie and Rusty Holzbaur, Christie Hartley and Skyler, Heaven and Paxton Portman, Crystal Hartley, Jonathon, Jordan and James Long and two great-granddaughters, Mariah and Brooke Holzbaur.
