Ruth Barbara Howerton, age 87, of Osceola, Missouri went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 28, 2016. Barbara was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Rutherford B Hayes and Nellie B. (Thompson) Hayes on June 26, 1928. She had the distinct pleasure of being born on her mother’s birthday.
Barbara graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas. On May 15, 1948 she married the love of her life, Walter T. Howerton. As a young woman she was a secretary at the Darby Corporation in Kansas City, Kansas. She later found her gifted talent of sales by being a successful sales representative for Avon and Beeline Fashions.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She had a positive and outgoing personality. One of her greatest joys was sharing her faith and love for her Lord…whether singing in the choir, teaching a Sunday school class, leading a you youth group or collecting for the Shoe Box ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rutherford and Nellie Hays and her in-laws John T. and Flora Howerton.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Walter T. Howerton; children, Walter D. Howerton and wife Janet and Penne Howerton; grandchildren, Ryan Howerton and wife Kerry, Jennifer Mowry and husband Jason and Carrie Scanlon; 3 great-grandchildren, Kacey and Maddie Howerton and Jack Mowry; brother-in-law, Edward L. Howerton and wife Ola; sister-in-law Lois L. Cook and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
