Josephine Hyde was born on October 1, 1936, in Osceola, Missouri to Andrew and Ida (Garrison) Shinn. She passed away December 30, 2021, in Joplin, Missouri.

Josie married Don Hyde on September 9, 1956. They lived in the Osceola/Roscoe area their entire lives. To this marriage 6 children were born. They raised these and any other children the kids brought home.

She loved gardening, canning, cooking and baking for her family. She was known for her homemade pies, hot rolls and various baked goods.  She was a culinary artist before it became stylish! With the free time she had she enjoyed bowling, bingo, fishing, and her grandchildren.  She enjoyed being on the water (even though she couldn’t swim), whether it be fishing or taking boat rides with Don.

Josie’s career always centered around cooking.  She worked for years for Jim Nalyor at the Commercial Hotel Cafe and Harry and Ila Osbourn at the Bus Stop Cafe. She worked many summers at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in the Frontier kitchen. Later she worked in the kitchen at Sac Osage Hospital. She had a big heart and helped anyone in need. She never knew a stranger.

Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; 2 brothers, Charlie and William; and 6 sisters, Julia, Lena, Retha, Anna Mae, Edna and Mary.

She is survived by her 6 children: Sharon Harper and husband Kevin of Osceola; Ed Hyde and wife Karen of Nevada; Joan Arms and husband Steve of Wheatland; Wayne Hyde and wife Mary of Osceola; Barbara Jenkins and husband Russ of Moundville; Janet Barker and husband Lance of Carl Junction, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Josie was loved by anyone she came in contact with. She will be greatly missed!
