Jerry Lee Long, son of Harry (Short) and Maude Ledbetter Long, was born October 4, 1935 in Ohio, MO. Brother Jim followed a few years later. Jerry attended high school in Appleton City. He attended CMSU in Warrensburg. He and Jim enlisted together and he served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1964.
Over the course of many years, Jerry worked as a DJ, a school teacher/counselor, musician, carpenter, restaurant owner, and farmer. Jack of all trades and master of many. When he married Bev, he had settled into a quiet life on the farm. On that farm, they hosted friends, family and grandchildren galore. The sign above the door says “a day with Grandma and Grandpa…priceless”, and no truer words have been spoken. Jerry enjoyed going to jam sessions and riding his motorcycle. He painted and did woodwork as hobbies.
Jerry leaves behind his brother, Jim Long (Jenny), and children Dan Long (Lynn), Michael Long (Pam), Beth Garrison (Monty), Terry Long (Jennifer) and Tim Long (Cindy), Kim McMillan (Allan), Lynn Artz (Larry), Tim Moffatt, Daniel and Lizzie Gingerich, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wives, Beverly Long, Betty Ray Long and infant son, Jon David.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lord’s Chapel and Kidd’s Chapel for maintenance, in care of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.
