McMillian, Robert C September 20, 1946 - October 21, 2015

Robert Charles McMillian, age 69, of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully, October 21, 2015 at MedicalLodges, Nevada, MO. His sister, Heartland Hospice staff and Nurses from MedicalLodges were by his side. Charles fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born on September 20, 1946, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Robert (Bob) and Dorothy (Darter) McMillian. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church, Miami. Charles proudly served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school in l964. After basic training, he served two tours in Viet Nam. Medals presented to him were Viet Nam Service Medal 2 Stars, Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device and Bronze Star with Combat V. He then volunteered for sub duty and served as store clerk on the Francis Scott Key Submarine. After his Navy discharge, he drove many years for Tri-State Trucking and then worked for Mid-West Fertilizer until his health failed. Charles loved taking rides on his Harley-Davidson and had the bike converted to a tric, so he could continue riding with friends. He had a passion for building complicated model airplanes and loved flying them. Until a month ago, he was working with his son restoring a 1955 Chevy for his daughter-in-law. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and, also, enjoyed scuba diving and laughing. Recently, his nephew, Asa, said, “Uncle Charles is really a happy person” and Grandma Rita asked him what he meant by that and he said, “He is always laughing.” (I can hear him laughing now at this.) Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Jay Farris, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his son, Steven and wife, Sonja, Bluejacket, OK; sister, Rita Farris, El Dorado Springs, Missouri; niece, Stacey and husband, Lee Wilson; Nevada, Missouri. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Hunter, Kason and Isabella; nieces Lacie, Adilynn, and nephew, Asa, Aunt Bette and many cousins and friends.
