Doty, Winifred Dorothy March 23, 1925 - October 22, 2015

Winifred Dorothy Schuchert, age 90, was born March 23, 1925 in Chester, Illinois to Ernest Frederick and Dorothy Marie (Schirmer)Schuchert. She passed away October 22, 2015. Winnie was raised in the Lutheran faith and attended school through graduation in Chester. She was two years older than her only sibling, a brother Ernie. In their younger years the two of them would sometimes go to the local prison where they would play their violins for the prisoners, who Winnie had said would sometimes cry. She also enjoyed playing piano. Upon graduation, Winnie worked as a legal secretary. he was very adept in spelling, grammar, typing and shorthand. Later in life, as a mother and grandmother, her shorthand came in handy. How perplexing to the kids and grandkids to see her Christmas list in plain sight, but not being able to decipher anything other than the name of the gift recipient!! As a teenager, Winnie would ride her bicycle to the gas station, behind her parents house to get lamp oil for her parents and air for her bicycle tires. this is where she met Frank. They were both 18, she being six days older than him, which through the years he never let her forget. They were married August 8, 1947, at 22 years of age. In 1950 they moved to El Dorado Springs. They had been married 64 years at the time of his death in 2011. to this union two children were born. Winnie was a stay at home mom for several years until becoming a typesetter for Witt Printing company. After many years of employment she retired and became active in the nursery business owned and operated by her husband and herself. She became a grandma to two grandsons, Matthew and Ryan, and a finer one she couldn’t have been. Many of the characters in the “Popeye” cartoon were fashioned from actual people in Winnie’s hometown. Wimpy (the man who loved hamburgers), was inspired and fashioned after Winnie’s great uncle. She had said that, in real life. He actually was very fond of hamburgers. Until health issues began to evolve several years ago, Winnie cooked up a storm (wonderful homemade noodles), worked up and canned garden fare, was very domestic and always available for needed comfort and help. She loved holidays, birthdays and all celebrations. Those occasions were always recognized with decorations, wonderful food and fanfare. Winnie was very soft spoken, kind and giving. She had a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Her gentle spirit did not falter even as her health declined. She loved children, animals, the color lavender, the smell of lilacs and hyacinths, watching ice skating and dancing on television and chocolate, especially chocolate. Wherever a beautiful soul has been there is a trail of beautiful memories. Winnie leaves a beautiful trail.
