Doris R. Scott was born July 6, 1923 near Quincy, Missouri to Abrahm S. (Shade) Nowell and Margaret N. (Capehart) Nowell. She passed away at her home in Phoenix, Arizona January 23, 2021.
She lived on the family farm growing up until the age of 12 when her father died from a strangulated hernia. Her mother and sister’s took up residency in Quincy, Missouri. At the age of 16, Doris made a profession of faith during a revival held by Dr. Leslie Christianson at Hopewell Baptist Church. Shortly thereafter she met Maurice G. Scott and they were united in marriage on August 20, 1941. They continued to live in the area where a daughter and son were born. In 1956 they moved to Raytown, Missouri
Doris worked for 18 years as a cafeteria worker in the Raytown School District. In 1974 she and Maurice retired to West Sedona, Arizona and in 1988 they relocated to Cottonwood, Arizona where she lived until 2017. She later moved to her sons home in Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Maurice Scott; daughter, Carolyn Jean Suyderhoud; brother, Arthur Nowell and sister, Kathryn Gilbert
Doris is survived by her son, Roger M. Scott of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Esther M. Grimsley; grandchildren, David A. Eidson, Rebecca S. Bontrager, Angela Higgins; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
