Summers, Betty Jo January 24, 1927 - January 25, 2014

Betty Jo Summers, 87, of Greenfield, MO passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Lake Stockton Healthcare facility in Stockton, MO. She was the first of six children born to Jesse and Almeda (Stewart) Griffin on January 24, 1927 in Dade County, MO. Betty was fiercely independent, tenacious, loyal and dedicated to her family. She spent her entire life in the Dade County area raising and devoted to her children. She began working at O’Sullivan Industries in 1967 on the production line and later as a secretary in the office until retiring in 1992 after 25 years of dedicated service. After retiring, Betty was able to lovingly care for her mother, Almeda until her death in 1994. Betty was an active member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Greenfield, MO for several years where she participated in the Dorcas Sunday School class. Preceding her in death were her parents, Jesse and Almeda Griffin; two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Griffin; three children, Cletis Snow in 1962, Larry Snow in 2002, and a daughter, Debbie Snow in 2011. Betty is survived by four sons, Clayton Snow and wife, Linda, of El Dorado Springs, MO, Roger Snow and wife, Gwenda, of Miller, MO, Danny Snow and wife, Mary, of Willard, MO and Eddie Summers of Mt. Vernon, MO; two daughters, Linda Bough and husband, Benny, and Pam Chism and husband, Rod, both of Stockton, MO; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grand children. She is also survived by a brother, Pete Griffin of Lenexa, KS and two sisters, Louise Smotherman of Lenexa, KS and Joan Petticord of Hemet, CA. Betty would take great pride in her home and spent many fulfilling hours gardening and tending to her flowers and yard. She liked to spend time outdoors sitting in her porch swing her children purchased for her on Mother’s Day. She also enjoyed quilting and working on cross stitch blocks for quilts. She had many projects that she completed over the years. Betty was able to reside in her home in Greenfield, MO until she entered the nursing home in late December 2013.
