This week we lost our Brother, Father, Uncle, Cousin, Doctor, Mentor and Friend, Jerry “Doc” Thies. Jerome Hollier Thies was born to Edward H. and Ruth H. (Burgess) Thies in Jackson County, Missouri, March 3rd, 1936. He struggled valiantly for the last several years against Alzheimer’s – His, Nancey’s and many patients’ and friends’. He passed peacefully Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.
Jerry lived a full, rich life, filled by his wonder and awe at everything around him, from plants and bugs to fish and birds to all the Humans he so cared for. He served his Country first as a paratrooping Surgeon in Viet Nam and continued to serve for nearly 50 years as the small town Doc in the Heartland of America, Osceola, Missouri. He loved his community and found it offered so many of the things he valued: professional challenge, friendship, hunting, fishing and the Great Outdoors, in every direction and nearly every form.
Doc was preceded in death by his Parents, his Daughters Holley and Jacque and his Wife Nancey. He is survived by his Brother Wayne and Wife Morie Thies, Sister Donna and Husband Denny Bassett, Wife Joanne Thies, Son Steve and Wife Melissa Thies, Daughter Kelly and Husband Steve Mayer, Daughter Karen Thies and Husband Howard Houghton, Daughter-in-Need Debbie Landrum, Grandchildren Madeline and Georgia Thies, Megan and Danielle and Kyle Mayer, Keely and Caleb Houghton and many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. His friends were many and close to Dad and we wish we could list them all. The support and love Jerry and we experienced, and continue to experience now, were and are amazing and continue to help us deal with our loss.
To honor his memory, please donate in his name to K.C. Hospice, who was by his side until the end, or your favorite Alzheimer’s Charity.
Rest in Peace Doc.
