VanBummel, Leora G. November 12, 1930 - July 14, 2013

Leora Gill VanBummel, 82, of El Dorado Springs, passed away on July 14, 2013. Born on November 12, 1930, to Clarence and Hattie “Gill” Murphey, she was the fourth of five children. She grew up in Iantha, Missouri, graduating from Liberal High School in May of 1949. Leora met the love of her life, Glen Van Bummel, while working at Workman’s General Store in Iantha. They were married on July 2, 1949 in Iantha. To this union three children were born. Leora was baptized at Lamar, Missouri, and was a current member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs. In 1957, she and Glen moved their family to El Dorado Springs where they were given the opportunity to build and operate a new location for Community Lumber Company. Leora was instrumental in the operation of the business through her support of Glen and in becoming the bookkeeper for the operation. In addition to her lumber yard duties Leora and Glen built and managed The Bee’s Restaurant from 1965 – 1968. She worked for Community Lumber Company until her retirement in 2007. Leora was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Glen, her parents, two sisters, one brother and one great grandson. She is survived by her children, Claudia and Gary Hardison, Kathy and Gordon Pierce and Richard and Glenda VanBummel; seven grandchildren; Dawn (Randy) Merryman, Rindi (Paul) Burns, Erik (Mary Elaine) Pierce, Ryan (Mary Elizabeth) Pierce, Laurel, Katelyn, and Glen William VanBummel; nine great- grandchildren, Camden, Ellie, and Matthew Burns, Grant, Will and Kellen Merryman, Karly and Aubrey Pierce and Gus Pierce; one sister, Arletta Probert; one sister-in-law, Delores Corker; one brother-in-law, Carl Sikes; many nieces, nephews and friends.
