Vaughn, Hazel Mae February 27, 1944 - August 9, 2013

Hazel Mae Vaughn was born on February 27, 1944 to Clem John Hyke and Nora Hyke in Cresco, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Cresco, Iowa and eventually moved to Osceola, Missouri with her mother and siblings. After moving to the area she met Dude Vaughn and they were married on August 13, 1960 and resided in Osceola, Missouri where they bought land, built a home, and created a wonderful family. She was a sister to twelve siblings, the mother of three boys, the grandmother to one boy and three girls and the great-grandmother to one boy. Hazel was the most loving and compassionate person on this earth. She never once thought about herself before someone else. Her main concern was how everyone else was feeling and if they needed anything and it did not matter how she felt, she would have done anything for anyone especially her family and close friends. If you stopped in for a visit it did not matter if you were family, you were welcomed in as if you were. Hungry or not, you did not leave her house on an empty stomach because she was always cooking or baking something. Hazel had many passions such as drawing and quilting. Her appliqué quilts had been featured in several magazines. You can bet she always had one of the nicest gardens around where she would spend much of her time. She loved hummingbirds, her dog and her chickens. She had a connection with people and animals like no one else. She had a way about her that drew in the love of people and animals. Hazel had very strong morals and political views that she did not mind sharing with you whether or not you asked. She enjoyed reading the “Letters to the Editor” in the paper, but she enjoyed writing and responding back to them even more. Her biggest passion of all was her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a very loved woman and will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father, Clem John Hyke, mother, Nora Hyke; son, Frankie Joe Vaughn; sisters, Gladys Samec, Alice Praska, Mary Marhoul, Kathrine Feuerhelm and Lois Combs; brother, Glen Hyke Hazel was grateful for have sharing her life with her husband, Dude Vaughn; sons Marty Eugene Vaughn and Bobby Joe Vaughn of Osceola, Missouri; grandson Justin Lee Vaughn and wife Tasha and great-grandson Wyatt Lee Vaughn of Osceola, Missouri; granddaughters Anna Vaughn of Osceola, Missouri, Jocelyn Hall of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Davina Trowbridge of Fort Riley, Kansas; sisters, Dorothy Marhoul of Calmar, Iowa, Esther Lensing of Calmar, Iowa, Phyllis Geising of Decora, Iowa, and Neoma Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and brothers, Lyle Hyke and wife Charity Ann of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Earl Hyke and wife Vicki of Lowry City, Missouri.
