Wattson, Mildred L. August 30, 1921 - March 4, 2014

Mildred Lyon Watson, much-loved wife, daughter, sister and aunt was born in St. Clair County, Missouri, on August 30, 1921 to Elmer Ellsworth Lyon and Elizabeth Ann (Replogle) Lyon. She passed away March 4, 2014 in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ellsworth (Elmer) and Elizabeth Ann Lyon; her brothers Fred, Melvin, Samuel, Richard and Kenneth; and, her sister, Lulu. Mildred survived two husbands, Charles Baker and Charles Wattson. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Lyon and numerous nieces and nephews. Within the family, Mildred was a caregiver and selflessly tended to any family member or friend who was ailing or in need.

Mildred’s life was devoted to serving others. She was a tireless and engaged aunt to her brothers’ children, a dedicated volunteer to ministries of the Church of the Brethren, and a lifelong friend of Kathleen and Doris Zeiler.

Mildred attended school in Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School in 1938. After graduation, she attended business college in Fort Scott, Kansas, where she nurtured talents that were indispensable to a number of businesses in the Kansas City area. She retired in the mid-1980s from the Laurence R. Jones Companies. She loved the arts, Messiah Church of the Brethren, and an extended network of family and friends.

Three words describe dear Mildred:  God; family and country. In lieu of flowers, Mildred requested donations to her church, Messiah Church of the Brethren, or Pleasant Mound Cemetery, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
