Larry Lee Young was born October 1, 1940 to William Ernest Young and Beulah Esther Crider in Shoal Creek, Missouri. On September 14, 2011 he passed away at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs, Missouri.
His early life was spent near Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Columbus, Ohio. In 1960 he entered the United States Army. He served in South Korea, Vietnam and was a member of the Ski and Rifle Team while serving in Alaska. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and other service related medals. On November 2, 1962 he was united in marriage to M. Josie Todd. Three sons and a daughter were born to this union. Larry started preaching in 1968 and served Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio. He entered Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri in January of 1970 and later Midwest Christian College in Midwest City, Oklahoma
While ministering in Booker, Texas Larry started an 18 year career in law enforcement. He attended the police academy in Oklahoma City, later serving as a Chief of Police in 3 different towns and also as a deputy. In 1987 he was nominated Small Town Chief of Police by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Larry was a man who wore many hats. He was a husband, father, grandpa, minister, friend, supporter, jokester, hunter, and a fisherman. Those who knew him well knew that he had a heart of gold. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. He was kind hearted and compassionate. Larry loved telling jokes and entertaining others with his stories. His experiences throughout his life taught him many lessons that he shared with his family as well as his church members. He chose to see the good in people and was accepting of others. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Howard, Ewell and Donald E. Young; 2 sisters Nora, Elizabeth Myers and Juanita Kemper.
Larry is survived by his wife Josie, of the home, 3 sons, Larry, Donald and Michael; 1 daughter, Teresa; 8 grandchildren, Milo, Zack, Josh, Rachel, Daniel, Molly, Ben and Hallie.
