Wilda Charline Powell was born September 25, 1933 to MH (Blacky) and Linda Doyle Davis in Colorado City, Texas and was one of four children. She passed from this life to her eternal life on January 2, 2016 at her home in Osceola, Missouri. She grew up in Texas where many of her extended family and close friends remain to this day. She moved to Osceola, Missouri in 1967 and remained there the remainder of her life.
She married Richard Van Powell on December 9, 1950 and went on to have three children. Richard and Charline attended many churches as Richard was a music minister and they made lifelong friends everywhere they went. They literally have friends in towns scattered all over parts of Texas and Missouri.
As a child she attended school in Sundown, Texas, and Whiteface, Texas where she finished school. After moving to Missouri Charline worked for Toalson Abstract Co., then the Corps of Engineers until the office closed in Clinton, Missouri. Charline then worked in Kansas City for an abstract company. In 1987 She began working for Morton van Zanten Clinic as a receptionist. She retired after 18 years at the clinic.
Charline enjoyed many hobbies during her life such as ceramics, sewing, needle craft, painting, refinishing furniture, making quilts and blankets and most recently making rugs. The way Charline was wired she had to have a project or two going at all times. Whether she was making her kid’s ceramic chess sets or her kids and grandkids all receiving nativity scenes handmade and painted by her, she was always working on something. The last few years she had made all of her family wool hooked rugs some of which took months of continuous work to complete. She had a gift of taking something ugly or old and ordinary and turn it into something special and desirable. As much as she enjoyed so many different crafts her joy came from her family and friends. She enjoyed nothing more than having all her kids and grandkids around as much as possible, but especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. She loved decorating her Christmas tree with various ornaments that she had made or those made by others. All of them had a story and were sentimental to her. In the last couple of years when questioned what she was thinking about, her response was “Well I love the LORD and I enjoy living”.
Charline was preceded in death by her brother Aubrey Kenneth Davis of Levelland Texas, sisters Christine Joy Denton of Irving, Texas, Nelda Marie Dipple of Lubbock, Texas. Z
