Lois May Roby was born in Vernon Co. on May 12, 1933 to Lester and Blanche Roby. She passed away June 28, 2014 at Community Springs Care Center, El Dorado Springs, MO. As a child she had her baby sister (Becky) to play with. Her brother (Dick) was a lot older than the two of them. So, she didn’t see as much of him. When she was sixteen she met the love of her life, Wally. Lois and Wally’s sisters (Becky and Marilyn) were friends and decided that the two of them should meet. So on a certain day in the fall the little sisters decided to have them meet at the skating rink. It was love at first sight and remained that way for the rest of their lives. After graduating high school Wally joined the Navy. A year later Lois graduated and they went to Arkansas and got married. Just as soon as Lois could, she made a beeline for San Diego and married life with Wally. When she got to California she got a job with See’s Candy Co. She worked there until they moved back to Missouri after Wally’s discharge.
Lois was a hard worker and began working as a teenager starting at the dime store on Main St. in El Dorado Springs. She then worked at See’s Candy Co. in San Diego, CA. When she moved back to Missouri she worked at Purina Co. for the remainder of her working career.
After longing for children for years Lois & Wally became the parents of two precious little boys, Jay and Gene. Lois became the loving Mother that she had longed to be. For the next 17 or 18 years she like most Mother’s had times of joy and times of sadness while raising their boys. Even after her boys were grown Lois continued to enjoy the children in her life. She always had gum and candy in her purse ready for a kiddo with a sweet tooth. This is also described as one of the most precious times of her life!
Most weekends found the Smith family on the way to the lake for some camping and fishing. Lois was an excellent fisher woman. She had lots of things she liked to do, bowling, crotchet, crafts, reading, cooking and sharing what she cooked with her family and friends. In the years after they moved back to El Dorado Springs Lois embraced her faith in God and lived accordingly. As a result of her faith, she attended the First Christian Church. She had a great fondness for crosses and you could often see one being displayed on her neck. She also had a strong belief in angels.
Lois was a loving person and shared her love with those who surrounded her. She made a multitude of friends in El Dorado and in every other facet of her life. And she loved them dearly.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Blanche Roby, her son Jay Smith, brother Dick Roby, and sister Rebecca Roby Bush.
Lois’s story could not be told without explaining the love she and Wally shared. They shared everything, thoughts, activities, conversations, and deep, deep love. It has been said by some, that they would like to write the story of their love. I’m sure it would be inspiring to many.
Lois leaves her lifetime love, Wally, son (Gene), grandchildren (Travis, Brandy, and Austin), sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Marilyn and Dean Mayden), many nieces and nephews, friends by the score, and life long friends (Orville and Dorothy Hawkins and Howard and Carol Hawkins). Lois we trust that you have reached God and have been blessed with all God’s love embracing you and it is DEVINE.
